Easy to use, no leaks and a real benefit for daily use regardless of weather. In winter, this keeps insulin cool in heated rooms; similarly keeping insulin cool outside in warm/hot weather. Used for extensive travel as well. Once ‘hydrated’ for first use, 2-3 minutes to rehydrate and maintain. Be careful not to leave the frio in water for too long, otherwise you’ll have to wait for it to ‘dehydrate’ a little before you can get 2 pens in. Can be a bit fiddly to get pens out; so best to carry pens without needles attached.

I’m a photographer, and needed a way to have my insulin with me. This product is very easy to use and impressive, to say the least. It holds two pens, safely, and keeps your medication cool for prolonged periods of time. Now, you must understand that this product is not a cooler, it’s designed to keep your medication at a reduced temperature than the ambient/outside temperature, which it absolutely does a great job of. Also, I can attest that it has worked for two days in a row. A fantastic product that I’m very happy with. Buy with confidence.

I must admit that I was skeptical that this would actually work as described, but simply put, it does and I love it. I bought this because I fly a lot and didn’t want to deal with products with ice packs, especially going through TSA (I know ice packs are permitted by TSA for medicine but the process can still be a pain). This is much more convenient and compact and keeps things cold for several days (not hours) without refrigeration. There is no melting or sweating of ice packs to deal with and you don’t need to worry about ice packs that can freeze your medicine. I have been using it since November, and it worked for all of my trips without an issue (even to several hot locations in the Caribbean). Simply soak the interior pouch in water, lay it on a paper towel to soak up any excess water, slide your medicine in the pouch, slide the pouch into the outer case and go. The product has some type of crystals in the interior pouch lining that swell when soaked in water and turn into a gel like substance. When you are finished using it, you just let it sit out and air dry and the gel turns back into crystals. It is so simple, convenient and reusable.

I really needed this to manage the temperature of my insulin. I actually use it at home where I don’t have air-conditioning in my bedroom and my living room can reach over 84 degrees on super hot days. The only problem I have is forgetting that I am soaking them. I’ve ruined a few and while it’s my fault it’s the only issue I have with it.

I have used Frio cooling cases for years and they work really well. They are made to keep insulin cool but will NOT keep anything cold, at refrigerator temperature nor frozen. Insulin is supposed to be stored long-term in a refrigerator but an open bottle or pen should be kept at room temperature or slightly cooler. Frio cases use evaporation and work perfectly for this purpose.
If you don’t follow the directions the case won’t keep anything cool so I will do a quick re-cap of the directions for anyone who might have lost their directions.
Remove the inner case from the Velcro-close outer cover. Place the inner pouch into a sink and fill the sink with enough water to cover the pouch. Allow it to absorb water until it is nice and puffy but not rigid, usually about 10 minutes. I don’t set a timer but just check it after a few minutes. If it gets too rigid you can gently squeeze it to remove some of the water. Drain the water from the sink and let the pouch sit for a few minutes, then wipe lightly with a towel. Place the insulin or pens into the soaked pouch and put all of that into the cover. This will NOT leak! DO NOT put it into a Ziploc bag or other plastic.
The really important thing to remember is that this works by evaporation so air needs to get to the pouch. I keep mine in a loosely packed tote bag or a purse, or on the car seat. Don’t pack it into a suitcase or tightly closed bag because it won’t work. I’m not sure if this will work on hot summer days when I need to leave my insulin in a closed-up car for several hours so I will put the whole thing into a cooler with some ice packs. The padded pouch protects the insulin from freezing against the ice packs.
I have never had one of these stop working so I don’t know how long they can last. I usually end up losing mine and having to buy a new one.

This was a big disappointment. It had come highly recommended. I have very expensive medication that must remain refrigerated until shortly before use. I will be traveling and need to keep it cool for international flights and related times. This sounded like the perfect solution. I tested it out, and the temperature only got ten degrees cooler than the ambient temperature at its best. When I went to troubleshoot on their website, it specified that it would not keep things cold like a refrigerator and was only designed to maintain things at room temperature. I am so glad I tested it and did not spoil my medication. I guess I was hoping cool was cold, cool was cooler, but cool is not even cool really.
