These cost over $1/day and I don’t see that they are really any better for me than the wholesale club brands. There is an awful lot of water soluble vitamins that just get peed out. Like B-12, where they supply nearly 21,000% of what we need. There is 269% of riboflavin (B-2), so expect pretty yellow pee, too.
I am not comfortable daily taking so much D3 in pill form. These are supposed to have 2,000IU. The NIH says a normal adult needs 600IU per day, but they should not have more than 4000IU. Since I get plenty of D3 from milk and other foods), I am taking one of these every other day.
This is a good multivitamin that covers all the basics as well as some other stuff(which I think should be considered basics at this point) like vitamin K2 and CoQ10. The only reason I’m not giving this a 5 star rating is because it’s quite pricey and some of the ingredients are present in too low of doses. For example, CoQ10 is present at 50mg/serving and it doesn’t say whether it’s the ubiquinol or ubiqinone form. I take CoQ10 regularly at 100-200mg/day. So 50mg is low, but better than nothing. There’s’ also no magnesium in this multivitamin. I already take magnesium glycinate and threonate so the lack of magnesium isn’t a big deal for me, but this supplement costs enough that I’m sure they could afford to add a solid dose of magnesium to it. Then there’s the Alpha Lipoic Acid dosed at 50mg. Considering that the ALA I take from other companies normally comes at 600mg/serving, I have no idea why it’s dosed so low. The dosage of inositol is even worse. This multivitamin contains 25mg of inositol per serving. This dosage is so low I’m not sure why it’s even in here. There are various forms of inositol. But this plainly says inositol. The inositol supplements I’m used to contain about 500mg of inositol. 20x more than what’s in this capsule. I suppose 25mg is better than nothing, but for the premium price of this supplement I think consumers should expect every ingredient to be present at efficacious dosages.
Note that my original review was rejected, so this is an abbreviated version of the original. I’ve largely been using whole food multivitamin supplements the last several years, because these are typically more effective and go a longer way than synthetic isolate multivitamin supplements used by the vast majority of products. Physician’s Daily isn’t a whole food multivitamin, but I decided to try it out because I’ve had positive experiences with other Researched Nutritionals products over the last eight months: Transfer Factor Multi-Immune, CytoQuel, and ATP 360. Additionally, this product is made for those with methylation issues due to having the MTHFR gene mutation. For example, Physician’s Daily provides methylfolate rather than folate or folic acid, provides methyl-B12 rather than one of the other four forms of B12 (e.g. cyanocobalamin) that can be found in other products, and riboflavin 5′-phosphate, the bioactive form of B2 for methylation support. Other reviews here comment about how this product is “expensive” or “overpriced”, but I tend to disagree because each bottle provides 60 once-per-day capsules, unlike most other multivitamin supplements which often recommend serving sizes of two or three capsules. One reviewer here in particular mentioned that “at the end of the day this product still just seems to be a multivitamin”, despite the fact they “like that this brand has a focus on peer reviewed research”. Here’s the thing: what many supplements claim on their labels is inaccurate, so the “less than 5 cents” serving cost this reviewer bragged about doesn’t mean much if the product isn’t giving them what they need, keeping in mind especially that Physician’s Daily is specifically made for those with methylation issues.
